You may be fishing in Costa Rica, but the fare you feast on with Osa Yacht Club can transport you from Italy to Greece to America and back again, all with five-star quality and service. Your dinners with Osa Yacht Club will be eaten at Jade Luna, which neighbors our luxurious accommodations on the Osa Peninsula in Puerto Jiménez.
Headed by an award-winning US chef, Barbara Burkhardt, this restaurant serves up appetizers so delectable it’s hard to hold out for their epicurean entrees. A graduate of New York’s famed Art Institute (formerly known as the New York Restaurant School) Burkhardt has 22 years of restaurant experience spanning the entire United States and a reputation enviable by any standards. Preferring to be called a restaurateur rather than a chef, Burkhardt’s wide culinary range allows her to constantly update the menu and incorporate whatever delicacies come her way, resulting in ever-changing options of delicious dishes to please even the most discriminating palate.
Delectable Dishes and Elegant Wines
All the seafood, meat, eggs, and other ingredients used at Jade Luna are as fresh as can be. The fish and shrimp come straight from the Golfo Dulce; eggs, beef, and pork from the local farms; and for the most authentic dishes possible, imported goat cheese, roasted red peppers, and olives. Let the light, flaky pastry of a vegetable and goat cheese tart melt in your mouth as you enjoy the peppery, garlicky filling. Or, indulge in light smoked trout topped with a creamy dilled natilla (sour cream) sauce, complemented by pickled red onion.
If you can make it past such luscious appetizers as Caribbean-spiced conch fritters and silky seafood bisques, you’ll be in for a serious treat; savor mustard and tarragon sauce topped chicken dishes, blackened Cajun-style fish with pineapple salsa, or a 14oz USDA sirloin grilled exactly to your taste and served up with garlic and green peppercorns, all with warm, pillowy fresh-baked bread and butter. As you eat your meal, sip on one of the delicious wines available, ranging from Chilean to French to Spanish. For a little lighter fare, try one of the many fresh salads, such as mixed greens topped with mango, avocado, fried goat cheese, spiced pistachios and rice wine vinaigrette. Plus, because the menu fluctuates constantly, you can stick with an old favorite or try something new, no matter how many times you come back.
If you’re able to leave room, choose from desserts ranging from classic American favorites to unique ginger ice cream. With a reputation for creating some of the creamiest and most mouthwatering sorbets and ice creams around, Burkhardt does not disappoint with dessert. Offering flavors such as rum raisin, vanilla bean, green tea, blackberry (mora), and mango, her ice creams delight the palate and satisfy the sweet tooth. But, be sure to sample a slice of Burkhardt’s famous pecan praline ice cream pie, which combines the gooey goodness of caramel and chocolate with a delicate graham cracker crust.
Authentic Costa Rican Atmosphere
The dishes at this restaurant may range from Greek to Italian to American, but the atmosphere is 100% Costa Rica, with all the little comforts you’d expect from a five-star restaurant. Slide into smooth wooden chairs with low backs for back support and enjoy extra leg room with center pedestal tables while soft strains of music float on the tropical breeze. As you relax and relish your meal, enjoy a view of the picturesque native flowers in the garden and the soft glow of candlelight cast on the beautifully tile-terraced dining area. For a true Costa Rican experience, the walls of the restaurant have been painted by locals with scenes of the native wildlife and rainforest.
After a long day of fishing with Osa Yacht Club, there’s no better way to enjoy the fruits of your labor than by sitting back, relaxing, and dining at this five-star restaurant.
